On Wednesday, 7 May 2026, the Blue Crab Days began at Restaurant Kamin Belvedere, a culinary event within the “Slastna invazija” project that introduces visitors to the blue crab through modern gastronomy – an invasive marine species that represents an increasing ecological and economic challenge in the northern Adriatic. The event will run until Sunday, 17 May 2026.
The Slastna invazija project highlights the importance of sustainable marine management and encourages innovative solutions for integrating invasive species into contemporary gastronomy. An important role within the project is played by the YouSea Institute, which as an associated partner actively contributes to raising awareness about the impact of the blue crab on the marine ecosystem and the importance of a sustainable approach to preserving biodiversity in the northern Adriatic.
For this occasion, Restaurant Kamin Belvedere has prepared a special menu in which blue crab is combined with local, seasonal and carefully selected ingredients. The dishes offer visitors a different perspective on sustainable gastronomy and demonstrate how environmental challenges can be transformed into a high-quality culinary experience.
The Slastna invazija project is led by MAR in CO d.o.o. in cooperation with Maristra d.o.o. and the associated partner YouSea Institute. Project activities are co-financed by the European Union through the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF), with funding allocated through the LASR FERAL public call.
