The concert In Two Voices: Trio Sonatas by Giuseppe Tartini and His Contemporaries will present selected works by Giuseppe Tartini and composers of his time. The programme brings together trio sonatas, solo works and the rich sonority of basso continuo, revealing the diversity of 18th-century musical language.
Performing will be Katarina Nagode on traverso flute, violinist Mojca Jerman, cellist Pablo Tejedor-Gutiérrez and harpsichordist Sonia Hrechorowicz.
The programme includes Tartini’s Trio Sonatas in D major and G major, Pugnani’s Trio Sonata in C minor, Stratico’s Sonata for violin and basso continuo, Nardini’s Trio Sonata in F major and Vandini’s Sonata for cello. The selected works will bring Tartini’s musical heritage into dialogue with his contemporaries.
A special feature of the evening will be the performance on a harpsichord, a copy of an instrument by Carlo Grimaldi from 1697, made in the workshop of Winfried Hackl. The harpsichord will contribute to the historically informed sound and artistically convincing interpretation of the programme.
The concert will be performed by the chamber ensemble Nocturnalia, founded in 2021 after the musicians met at the Eeemerging+ summer academy in Ambronay. The ensemble creates innovative programmes for music of the 17th and 18th centuries and has performed at festivals such as Oude Muziek Utrecht, Contratemps in Spain and the Chios Music Festival in Greece.
Nocturnalia pays special attention to discovering lesser-known repertoire, improvisation, new sound textures and connecting historically informed performance practice with folk music traditions.
The evening will offer a fresh perspective on Tartini’s trio sonatas, the music of his contemporaries and 18th-century chamber creativity.
