Francesco Bertocco in Portorož, Ljubljana and on an international tour
The Monfort Gallery in Portorož is hosting Breaking the Circuit of Control, a solo exhibition by Italian artist Francesco Bertocco, until 23 August. The exhibition explores the work of psychiatrist Franco Basaglia and his influence in Brazil. It is accompanied by a documentary film and an extensive public programme. Francesco Bertocco’s Breaking the Circuit of Control project will continue in Ljubljana in the autumn. On 12 September 2026, from 10 am to noon, the City Museum of Ljubljana (MGML) will host a conversation with the artist and other guests, as well as a screening of the film O homem no pelourinho. On the same day, 12 September, an exhibition of photographs taken in Brazil will open at Galerija Fotografija at 6 pm, accompanied by a presentation of a catalogue published by Humboldt Books. The accompanying programme will then continue in Paris, Gdańsk, Milan, Rovereto and the Swiss canton of Ticino. The programme encourages reflection on the connections between contemporary art, psychoanalysis, institutional memory and society. Further information will be published on the OGP website.
Bernhard Rüdiger at the Piran City Gallery
The Piran City Gallery is hosting Bernhard Rüdiger’s retrospective Failed Again (The Seventh Trumpet) until 23 August. The exhibition presents four decades of the artist’s work through sculptures, installations, drawings, paintings, film and sound works.
The Herman Pečarič Gallery is hosting the exhibition Sakan and Piran.
Ex-tempore Piran 2026
The 61st International Painting Ex-tempore will take place from 29 August to 5 September. The programme will begin with an exhibition by Julija Brajnik Volčič on 28 August, followed by a creative week, exhibitions and accompanying events. The programme will conclude with an awards ceremony in Tartini Square on 5 September.
