On Thursday, 16 July 2026, at 7:00 p.m., Monfort Gallery in Portorož will host a guided tour of the exhibition Francesco Bertocco: Prekiniti tokokrog nadzora / Breaking the Circuit of Control. The tour will be led by Tina Jazbec.
The exhibition is dedicated to the spiritual legacy of Franco Basaglia, a leading reformer of modern psychiatry and advocate of a radical critique of totalitarian institutions. At the centre of the exhibition is Basaglia’s journey to Brazil in 1979, during which Francesco Bertocco revisited the places marked by Basaglia’s visit and met with witnesses of the events from that time.
Through photography, video and documentary material, the exhibition opens up a reflection on the history of the forced institutionalisation of people with mental illness and on the places marked by this history.
