Embark on an Izola countryside experience

Along the paths of the Histri to the Kašler archaeological site

The day begins in the village of Korte above Izola, the largest settlement in the Izola hinterland, offering stunning views of the Šavrin Hills and the Sečovlje Salt Pans.

Together with a local, you will walk to the Kašler archaeological site, where around 5,000 years ago the Histri built one of the first fortified hilltop settlements – a castellieri. Through the guide’s storytelling, you will learn about the lives of prehistoric inhabitants closely connected to nature and step back in time to ancient civilizations.

Flavours of the Istrian countryside

The journey continues through the colorful, narrow streets of Korte to the local winery Korenika & Moškon, where you will enjoy a cellar tour and a tasting of premium wines.

Alongside selected wines, you will taste typical Istrian snacks that complete an authentic gastronomic experience. This is the perfect moment for relaxed socializing and discovering the flavors of rural Istria.

The Frata water source and life in the past

After refreshments, a walk follows to the Frata water source below the village of Korte. In the past, water sources were an essential part of everyday rural life – used for drinking water, washing laundry, and watering livestock.

At the site, you will learn about old customs and even try traditional tasks once performed by Istrian grandmothers, such as washing clothes. Do you think you’ll manage?
