Each of us has an impact on the environment through the choices we make every day. The way we travel, what we eat, how we use energy and what we buy all contribute to our carbon footprint. With the free PSLifestyle test, we can better understand our impact and discover where small changes can make a difference.
What is your carbon footprint? Calculate it with the PSLifestyle app
Our everyday choices have a significant impact on the environment. The way we travel, heat our homes, choose our food and shop affects the amount of greenhouse gas emissions associated with our lifestyle.
Do you know what your carbon footprint is? What is a carbon footprint?
A carbon footprint is a measure of the amount of greenhouse gas emissions associated with a particular activity, system or population. It is expressed in carbon dioxide equivalents (CO₂e), which makes it possible to compare the impact of different greenhouse gases on the climate.
For each individual, their carbon footprint is influenced by many everyday habits – from the way we travel and use energy to our diet and shopping habits. Measuring our carbon footprint helps us better understand which aspects of our lifestyle have the greatest impact on the climate and where we can make changes.
Calculate your lifestyle carbon footprint
We can do this with the Lifestyle Test, a free online application developed as part of the European PSLifestyle project. The test allows users to calculate the carbon footprint of their lifestyle and provides an insight into opportunities for making more sustainable choices.
The calculation is based on four key areas:
- housing,
- transport and travel,
- food,
- other consumption and purchases.
Based on your answers about your habits, the test calculates your estimated climate impact. It uses data on average consumption and carbon footprints, adapting them according to the information you provide, such as the distances you travel.
The result is more than just a number: it helps you identify the areas with the greatest potential for change and encourages you to consider a more sustainable way of living.
Small changes, big impact
Reducing your carbon footprint can start with small steps. Walking or cycling more often, using public transport, using energy more efficiently, reducing food waste and shopping more consciously, as well as reusing and repairing products, are just some of the ways we can reduce the impact of our lifestyle.
It is important not to try to change everything at once. Once we understand the areas where our impact is greatest, we can focus on changes that are easiest for us to make and that can have the greatest effect.
Check your carbon footprint
Take a few minutes to check the carbon footprint of your lifestyle. The result may surprise you, or it may show you that you are already making many positive choices.
Every change starts with awareness. Let’s measure, understand and act.
