A ballet set to the music of Vojislav Kostić
National Theatre Belgrade
Choreography and Direction: Staša Zurovac
This ballet production by the National Theatre in Belgrade tells the story of a chance group of passengers travelling on a rickety bus from a remote village to Belgrade on the eve of Germany’s attack on Yugoslavia. The libretto is based on the screenplay of Dušan Kovačević’s cult film from 1980, while the immortal music of Vojislav Kostić provides a rich foundation for expressive choreography.
The recognisable music, outstanding choreography, and inventive direction have earned the production the status of a major success, confirmed by more than two hundred performances on its home stage and numerous international tours, including Colombia, Canada, Egypt, and Rome.
