The renowned Italian chamber orchestra I Solisti Veneti returns to the Tartini Festival, where it has delighted audiences for many years. This time, under the artistic direction of conductor Giuliano Carella, the ensemble will present a programme that brings together Italian musical heritage, virtuosity and more contemporary soundscapes. The soloist will be the acclaimed flautist Massimo Mercelli.
The programme features works by Arcangelo Corelli, Antonio Vivaldi, Baldassare Galuppi, Giovanni Benedetto Platti, Giuseppe Tartini and composer Rachel Portman. A special highlight of the evening will be Filmscapes for solo flute and orchestra, dedicated to Massimo Mercelli and I Solisti Veneti, inspired by the film music for Emma, The Cider House Rules and Chocolat.
The programme will showcase the richness of Baroque and Classical music – from Vivaldi’s concerto La Notte and Tartini’s violin concerto to Rachel Portman’s contemporary, film-inspired musical language.
The concert will also feature a harpsichord, a copy of an instrument by Carlo Grimaldi from 1697, made in the workshop of Winfried Hackl. The harpsichord will contribute to the historically informed sound and artistically convincing interpretation of the programme.
I Solisti Veneti ranks among the most distinguished Italian chamber orchestras. The ensemble was founded in 1959 by Claudio Scimone and has since performed more than 6,000 concerts in over 90 countries, appeared at major international festivals and recorded more than 350 musical releases. A special part of its mission is the research and revival of Italian musical heritage, including the works of Giuseppe Tartini.
Conductor Giuliano Carella, the ensemble’s artistic director, is an internationally established conductor with a broad operatic and symphonic repertoire. He has conducted in many of the world’s leading opera houses and concert halls, including the Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Teatro Real Madrid, Liceu Barcelona and the Arena di Verona.
Flautist Massimo Mercelli is regarded as one of the leading flautists of his generation. Composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Philip Glass, Michael Nyman, Ennio Morricone, Nicola Piovani and Rachel Portman have written for or collaborated with him. He performs in major concert halls around the world and is especially dedicated to world premieres of contemporary works.
The evening will bring together Tartini’s heritage, Italian Baroque, flute virtuosity and a film-inspired musical experience.
