The concert From Handel to the Galant Style will present music by George Frideric Handel, Johann Joachim Quantz and Georg Philipp Telemann in a refined combination of two flutes and harpsichord. The programme will take the audience from Baroque expression to the lighter, elegant world of the galant style.
Performing will be Winfried Hackl on recorder, Norbert Trawöger on flute and Ellen Braslavsky on harpsichord. The selected programme includes Handel’s sonatas from the collection Seven Sonatas for Two Violins and Basso Continuo, Op. 5, Quantz’s Trio Sonata in C major and Telemann’s Trio Sonata in A minor.
A special feature of the evening will be the performance on a harpsichord, a copy of an instrument by Carlo Grimaldi from 1697, made in the workshop of Winfried Hackl. The harpsichord will contribute significantly to the historically informed sound and artistically convincing interpretation of the programme.
Winfried Hackl is a flautist, chamber musician and harpsichord maker. As a musician, he performs with numerous chamber ensembles and is also active in jazz and more contemporary musical practices. Since 1986, he has been making harpsichords, and his instruments are used at many Baroque festivals across Europe.
Norbert Trawöger is a flautist, musician, writer and cultural creator. Since summer 2025, he has been artistic director of Brucknerhaus/LIVA; before that, he was artistic director of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and head of the Anton Bruckner 2024 exhibition. He studied in Vienna, Gothenburg and Graz, and is also active as an author and commentator on cultural life.
Ellen Braslavsky is a pianist and harpsichordist, established as both a soloist and chamber musician. She has performed in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Rudolfinum in Prague and Teatro La Fenice. She currently works as an accompanist at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.
The concert will offer an elegant blend of Baroque music, the sound of flutes, harpsichord and the galant musical style.
