The Croatian ethno group Veja from Pazin, founded in 2007, has become one of the key pillars of the Croatian ethno and world music scene. The group draws inspiration from the traditional music of Istria – a region where Dinaric and Italian cultures intertwine, shaping a distinctive style of singing and playing. In its work, Veja brings together all styles of Istrian music, including some of the lesser-known ones.
In 2014, they released their debut album Dolina mlinova, which impressed both critics and audiences; the songs Anka, Marija and Črni orko became an essential part of Croatian world music. This was followed by performances at festivals such as Ethnoambient and TradInEtno, as well as tours in Italy, France, Estonia and Belgium. After a longer break, they released their second album Škura ura in June 2022, a new journey through Istrian heritage that established them as outstanding ambassadors of Istrian music – bringing tradition closer to younger generations through a contemporary approach.
