The new temporary exhibition Ševoli in the Nets – Traditional Mullet Fishing and Watercolours of Adriatic Fish opened on 16 June 2026 at the Monfort exhibition venue in Portorož, Obala 8.
The exhibition, curated by Nadja Terčon and Veronika Bjelica in collaboration with Vinko Oblak, presents the tradition of mullet fishing in the Bay of Piran and the different types of fishing nets. The exhibition narrative is complemented by watercolours by Venice-based artist Luigi Divari, created on the basis of several decades of research into the history of Adriatic fishing.
A varied programme of events will take place at the Monfort exhibition venue in July as part of the exhibition.

We will explore the exhibition and listen to Veronika Bjelica, who will guide us through its stories. We will then work with watercolours to create our own marine-themed paintings. The workshop will be led by Gaja Lapajne Stanič, an illustrator and visual communications design student.
The workshop is suitable for children, families and adults! The workshop fee is only €2!

Archive films and footage about fishing and Piran
Paolo Venier, who was born in Trieste and is of Piran descent, is a collector of old film footage and musical material. His research primarily focuses on collecting material related to the Trieste area and Istria. His extensive archive contains a large collection of film footage, mostly unique copies, documenting the period from the beginning of the 20th century to the 1940s.
On this occasion, two fascinating films from 1966, recorded by Piran-born Graziella Corsi Petracco, will be presented. They depict mullet fishing and winter fishing. Rare footage of Piran and its surroundings, filmed in 1937 by an amateur filmmaker from Trieste, will also be screened. We will also have the opportunity to hear the Anthem of the Consortium of Piran fishermen, written in 1926, in a rare recording dating from 1989.
The exhibition will remain on view until 18 September 2026.
