Laibach Concert 2026: We forge the future

Mi kujemo bodočnost was the title of a historic performance by Laibach, first staged on 23 April 1983 as part of the 12th Music Biennale in Zagreb, Croatia, then still part of the Yugoslav federation. The performance triggered a fierce public and media campaign against the group, followed by an official ban on Laibach’s activities in Slovenia and Yugoslavia, which lasted until 1987. Laibach occasionally performs this programme at selected concerts.

The group was founded in 1980 in Trbovlje, an industrial coal-mining town in central Slovenia. Upon its formation, Laibach prepared its first multimedia project in Trbovlje, a concert and exhibition entitled Alternative to Slovenian Culture, conceived as a challenge to the striking contradictions of the country’s political and cultural situation at the time. The entire event was banned before it could take place, preventing the group’s first public appearance.

For its performance at Magazin Grando in Portorož, Laibach will therefore also include new interpretations of the original compositions intended for the Trbovlje concert in 1980. These tracks were released on 1 January 2023 on the album Sketches of the Red Districts (GOD Records).
