On Friday, 4 September 2026, at 5 pm, the Church of St Francis of Assisi in Piran will host a ceremony marking the first anniversary of the return of the precious Carpaccio painting Madonna and Child Enthroned with Saints to Piran. On this occasion, a special commemorative album dedicated to its remarkable 85-year journey will also be presented.
After many decades of absence, this important work by Vittore Carpaccio returned to the place with which it is historically closely connected. The first anniversary of its return will offer an opportunity to come together once again in celebration of art, history and Piran’s cultural heritage.
The central part of the event will be the presentation of the commemorative album, which tells the story of the 85-year journey of Carpaccio’s Madonna and Child Enthroned with Saints. The album will be presented by Fr Dr Igor Salmič and its author, Fr Janez Šamperl.
The ceremony will be complemented by a spiritual and cultural programme featuring the Georgios Mixed Choir, Ljoba Jenče, Ubald Trnkoczy, Simon Krečič and the Pergula Male Choir.
Only on the day of the presentation, 4 September, the commemorative album will be available for a symbolic contribution of €10. The regular retail price of the album is €24.
After the programme, visitors are also invited to an agape reception in the cloister of the Minorite monastery.
