Branislav Nušić’s cult Serbian classic Mrs. Minister is a comedy of characters framed within social satire. The story of Mrs. Živka’s social ascent reveals timeless mechanisms driven by vanity, ignorance, greed, and the desire for social recognition. Almost overnight, an ordinary housewife becomes an important and influential lady due to her husband’s sudden rise to a high political position.
