Anyone seeking the highest level of songwriting refinement and the art of sonic poetry in the rich history of contemporary Italian pop music will soon come across the name of a man who says: “Every concert is like an encounter in which we get to know one another through sound and words – and words, even those whispered or woven into melodies, can be more powerful than a slap in the face.”
Bungaro appeared at the Sanremo Festival in 1988, 1991 and 2004, when he received the award for Best Music as well as the prize for the special literary merit of the lyrics, and most recently in 2018, when he performed his song on stage alongside the legendary singer Ornella Vanoni. As a songwriter, he has received the Sanremo Festival Critics’ Award four times, was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2014 and has won the prestigious Lunezia and Musicultura awards several times. In the world of film, his songs have earned him the Ciak d’Oro, Nastro d’Argento and David di Donatello awards.
He has written hits for artists such as Eros Ramazzotti, Jovanotti, Giusy Ferreri, Francesco Renga, Fiorella Mannoia, Ornella Vanoni, Marco Mengoni and many others. He has also collaborated with major international artists, including Youssou N’Dour, Ian Anderson, Alejandro Sanz, Chico Buarque, Omar Sosa, Ivan Lins, Cesária Évora, Paula Morelenbaum and Daniela Mercury, as well as Slovenia’s own Tinkara Kovač.
Following his remarkable guest appearance at the Melodies of the Sea and Sun festival, Bungaro returns to Avditorij Portorož, this time with a full-length multimedia concert as part of the “Fuoco Sacro” tour, named after his latest and eleventh studio album. On the occasion of its release, he received the prestigious “David Bowie Career Excellence Award” from the Urbano Quinto Celebrity Heritage Foundation, which also honoured him with an original, previously unpublished painting by Andy Warhol.
He will be accompanied by his outstanding four-piece band: Ivo Parlati on drums; Matteo Moretti on bass guitar; Antonio De Luise on piano, keyboards and other instruments; and, above all, his long-time musical collaborator, vibraphonist Marco Pacassoni, a world-renowned musician who has worked with artists such as Michel Camilo, John Patitucci, Alex Acuna, Steve Smith and Malika Ayane, and has performed at some of the most prestigious jazz festivals and venues around the world, from Italy to Hong Kong, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Australia, China and the United States. The concert promises an unforgettable journey through Bungaro’s rich catalogue of hits, complemented by surprising interpretations from the repertoires of Talking Heads, Jovanotti and Domenico Modugno, carried by the extraordinary voice of one of Italy’s finest singer-songwriters: Bungaro. ***
