Average sea temperatures in Portorož
Portorož enjoys pleasant sea temperatures throughout the year thanks to its location in the Gulf of Trieste and its moderately warm Mediterranean climate. In summer, the sea warms up to approximately 20–26 °C, making the bathing season peak in July and August and often last until October. In spring, temperatures rise to 13–18 °C, while in autumn the sea retains its warmth (15–21 °C). In winter, it cools down to around 9–12 °C.
In the shallower areas along the Portorož beach, the sea warms up faster than in the open waters, so temperatures are often pleasantly mild already at the beginning of June. In autumn, the sea acts as a natural “heat accumulator”, creating a milder microclimate along the coast and allowing for pleasantly warm days by the sea even outside the main season.
