We may think we know certain historical figures. Yet only when we look at them up close do we realize how much deeper and more fascinating their true story is than the familiar legends.
On Saturday, 28 February, at 6:00 PM, the Tartini 130 Organizing Committee invites you to Tartini House in Piran for an evening dedicated to Giuseppe Tartini — a lively dialogue between words, archival documents and music.
The main guest will be Mirko Schipilliti, musician and physician, author of the new monograph Giuseppe Tartini. Genius of the Bow (Zecchini Editore). In it, Tartini comes to life again as a man of his time: a Europe-renowned violinist, a curious thinker and a persistent researcher with a restless mind. One of the key figures of the 18th century, too often reduced by tradition to only a handful of captivating legends.
After the talk, archive director mag. Nada Čibej and archivist Matej Muzenič will present four original scholarly works from the Piran Collection of the Regional Archives Koper. The manuscripts reveal a composer who reflects deeply on mathematics, proportions and the nature of sound. At 8:00 PM, a concert will follow.
Schipilliti on harpsichord and Giulio Plotino on violin will perform four Tartini sonatas tracing his artistic development, including Dido Abandoned and the famous Devil’s Trill — a work that still astonishes today with its expressive power.
The evening will be a compact and engaging journey in which words will illuminate the music, and the music will breathe new life into the stories. The event is intended for everyone who wishes to listen with open ears and a curious mind.
