In the spring of 2026, in its twenty-fifth year of activity, Katalena will release its tenth album, titled Meja (The Border). On the one hand, the album is a musical diary of the band’s imaginary journey along the western border of Slovenia; on the other, it is a reflection on the concept of borders in their concrete and symbolic meanings.
The anniversary is also the inspiration for a new tour of stages and concert venues – Katalena will celebrate its birthday with its audience, with whom it has built a deep connection over the years. The band has performed in virtually every club, concert hall, and festival stage in the country, and has also toured extensively abroad. They continue to perform in the same line-up, which in recent years has been joined by violinist Jelena Ždrale. It is time for a new journey.
The band, originating from Ljubljana and devoted to Slovenian folk music, remains faithful to its core principles: exploring tradition, engaging in dialogue with the past, and creating original music that serves as a bridge between past and present – all seasoned with playfulness and captivating rhythms and melodies. And so too will Katalena’s year 2026 be: playful and infectious.
