The Town Walls

The town of Piran has preserved its medieval character to this day as a compact urban fabric surrounded by a belt of walls. The oldest part is the Punta district.

Tartini Square

The square was named after the famous Piran native, violin virtuoso, and composer Giuseppe Tartini (1692–1770).

Venetian House

They are adorned with well-designed architectural elements and rich stone decorations, featuring a prominent Gothic corner balcony. It is the oldest preserved house on Tartini Square. Between the windows of the second floor, there is a stone plaque with a standing lion, beneath which is the inscription 'Lassa pur dir' (Let them talk).

Cathedral of St. George

At the top of the town stands the Parish Church of St. George, the largest of all the churches in Piran, from where one can enjoy a view of three countries. The bell tower was added during the Venetian rule (17th century) and is a scaled-down replica of the bell tower of St. Mark's in Venice.

Tartini’s Birth House

In Tartini's birthplace, you can visit his memorial room and view valuable musical artifacts, such as his death mask, violin, manuscript book, and letters.
