Portorož and Piran have been selected as finalists in the nationwide Moja dežela – znak gostoljubnosti 2026 competition. Portorož is competing for an award in the Best Tourist Destinations category, while Piran is a finalist in the Historic Town Centres category. From 1 October onwards, the public will also be able to support both destinations through online voting.
Portorož and Piran among the best
This year, the Tourist Association of Slovenia is organising the Moja dežela – znak gostoljubnosti competition for the 35th consecutive year. When assessing destinations across Slovenia, the expert committees focused primarily on their appearance and upkeep, hospitality, sustainability, the quality of the tourism offer, preservation of heritage and local identity.
Both of the main towns in our destination have made it to this year’s finals.
Portorož is a finalist in the Best Tourist Destinations category, alongside Bled, Ljubljana, Rogaška Slatina and Sežana.
Piran is a finalist in the Historic Town Centres category, together with Koper, Kropa, Novo mesto, Radeče, Slovenj Gradec, Slovenske Konjice, Škofja Loka and Štanjel.
Reaching the finals is an important recognition of the efforts of numerous individuals, tourism providers, public services and other stakeholders who work together to ensure a high-quality, well-maintained and welcoming destination.
The public will also decide on the Green Sign of Hospitality
In addition to the awards presented on the basis of expert committee assessments, the votes of residents and visitors will once again play an important role this year.
Online voting will take place from 1 October to 1 November 2026 on the website of the Tourist Association of Slovenia. The destinations receiving the highest number of public votes in their respective categories will be awarded the Green Sign of Hospitality.
The Gold, Silver and Bronze Signs of Hospitality will meanwhile be awarded on the basis of the expert committees’ assessments.

We invite all residents, tourism providers, partners, visitors and friends of the destination to take part in the online vote between 1 October and 1 November 2026 and support Portorož and Piran.
Every vote supports our shared efforts to create a welcoming, well-maintained, sustainable and high-quality tourism destination.
All awards will be presented on 30 November 2026 at 6 p.m. at the St. Bernardin hotels as part of the Days of Slovenian Tourism.
