September is the most enchanting month to visit Istria. It’s less crowded yet still warm, the perfect time for numerous culinary events, ensuring our taste buds are satisfied with many delicious Istrian delicacies. You can round off your visit with many other cultural events.

Istrian tastes are sure to spice up the month of September. Beginning on the 7th September, and lasting through to the 8th September, you can visit Marezige's Fig and Rosé Wine Festival. Open Kitchen, the popular food market, returns on the 7th September in Koper while Škofije hosts Goulashiada a week later on the 14th September, catering to all lovers of goulash. Alternatively, if you prefer the taste of baccalà (salt cod-fish spread), then visit Izola's Manzioli Square on the same day where you will find the local producers of baccalà. Join one of many baccalà workshops where you can learn several things. The Elda Trio will top off the event with a wonderful concert.

The Scent of Istria, is another authentic event promoting Istrian cuisine on the 21st September, in the village of Krkavče. Taste homemade food such as garlic soup, corn minestrone, and baccalà with polenta. Visit the local market stands to learn more about the village and its customs. A big cultural event awaits.

The last weekend in September will be very sweet, and somewhat spicy across Istria. Izola will host this year's chili festival – Chilliada, on the last Saturday of the month. Koper will host the 11th festival of sweets Sweet Istria, on the 28th and 29th of September. There you will find a wide variety of sweet treats, wine tastings, confectionary workshops and cooking shows with famous cake chefs such as Gorazd Potočnik, Naser Gashi, Ana Žontar Kristanc and many others. The traditional Ex Tempore will also take place.

The art competition, 54. Ex Tempore Piran, is waiting for you in Piran until the 7th September. There are many other cultural events throughout September, giving you plenty of reason to visit Istria! The singer-songwriter and journalist, Drago Mislej Mef, will put on a show for all fans of music. He will appear at the summer cinema Arrigoni, alongside Marina Martensson and other famous artists, to perform songs from his album Not Again...Mef.

The relaxing evenings continue well into the month, honouring one of Piran's greatest landmarks - Walls of Piran Festival. From the 6th September until the 13th September, enjoy two more concerts.  Fans of classical music have until the 8th September to attend a concert at the Tartini Festival, an international festival of chamber music dedicated to Tartini.

The cultural events in Koper continue with the festival of street artists, Frivolus, between the 6th and the 8th September, followed by the Jazz Ethno Funky Festival JEFF from the 10th to the 15th September.
