Taverna, the impressive building located in the immediate vicinity of the old city harbour, used in the past as a salt warehouse of St Mark, is today a multipurpose outdoor event venue.
According to written sources, the local population began to produce salt already in 1182 and needed a suitable place to store the harvest. After the abandonment of the saltpans in 1912, a fish shop and various taverns and shops opened, ever since the renovation in 2000, however, the building has become an important meeting point of the city.
