Portorož, the »port of roses«, has been known as health resort from as early as the 13th century, when the Benedictines from the Monastery of St. Lawrence treated various diseases by means of sea water and salt mud. Today, it prides itself with elegant hotels, restaurants, boutiques, sport centres, beautiful surroundings and the highest of standards in tourism.
Piran is a pleasant and attractive little town, squeezed in between the sea and the town walls which in the past protected the town from attacks coming by land. The view from the town cathedral exhibits a wonderful harmony of slanted roofs, irregular angles, small terraces reaching out towards the daylight, mansard roofs and characteristic chimneys.
Izola is an ancient fishing town with typical Mediterranean architecture built on a peninsula, with narrow streets where you can find excellent taverns offering fish and local wines.
